As the organizer of the Zurich Christmas Market at the main railway station, we take responsibility for the environment and the city. For us, sustainability is a central component of the organization and shapes all areas of the event.
All 120 market houses and our two large terrace and restaurant buildings are designed, built and stored entirely in Switzerland. In this way, we avoid long transport routes and make a clear contribution to climate protection.
The savings are measurable: transport from neighboring countries would cause an average of 145.8 tons of CO2 - equivalent to the annual footprint of over 30 cars. We save these emissions through our local production.
In addition, we strengthen Swiss craftsmanship, secure regional jobs and benefit from short response times for adjustments.
Sustainability does not end with the structure. Our recycling system ensures that all relevant materials are professionally collected and recycled:
Paper and cardboard - complete recycling of all packaging materials
Aluminum - 100% return to the material cycle
PET bottles - consistent separation and recycling
Glass - professional collection and processing
Waste oil - environmentally friendly disposal and recycling
This allows us to reduce waste and increase the resource efficiency of our event.
Our project organization, forms, orders and administrative processes are largely digital. This leads to a reduction in paper consumption of around 90 percent, conserves resources and makes our processes more efficient and transparent.
Wherever possible, we use electrically powered cranes and construction vehicles. This reduces air pollution on site and underlines our goal of using innovative and environmentally friendly solutions.
All our buildings are marked with the "Sustainably produced in Switzerland" sticker. Visitors can thus immediately recognize the local origin of our infrastructure.
Sustainability is an ongoing process for us. We re-evaluate our measures every year, look for further opportunities for improvement and are in contact with local environmental organizations. In doing so, we are also guided by international standards for sustainable events.
The Zurich Christmas market Polarzauber combines tradition with responsibility. With our measures, we are creating an event that combines quality, community and sustainability - today and in the future.
All market stalls, the pixel tunnel, the fondue train and the large terrace are designed for a service life of at least ten years. Through long-term use and regular reuse, we significantly reduce the need for new purchases. This reduces the consumption of resources and the event's CO2 footprint.
